ARTIST STATEMENT

As an artist, I create layered mixed-media collage paintings that embrace the abstract “language.” I arrange physical and visual opposites to explore connections and diversity. In joining familiar elements with ambiguous abstractions, I create paintings that can spark visual insight, new perspectives, and help us embrace our diverse connectedness.
My creative process is both planned and spontaneous. I use acrylic paint, pencil, ink, and paper fragments to weave together color, line, shape, and texture. As I add, intersect, remove, and overlap elements, a cohesive and complementary presence emerges, expressing the strong connection that exists among seemingly disconnected things.
And what about titles? Words are important and I view each title as an extension of the painting, helping the viewer make a first connection with the painting while inspiring their personal interpretation.
