ARTIST STATEMENT
My acrylic mixed-media paintings on paper and canvas explore connection and diversity. I join familiar elements with ambiguous abstractions to create paintings that express the strong connection that exists among seemingly disconnected things.
My creative process is both planned and spontaneous. I use color, line, and texture in an intricate way, and sweep bold marks across individual hand-painted paper paintings that I tear and use in my canvas art, painted in a more subtle and minimal way. As I add, intersect, and overlap elements, a cohesive and complementary presence emerges, giving visual confirmation of our differences working to enhance our connections.
